Short version: Cassette has no account, no analytics and no ads. Your library lives on your server, the app talks to that server and to nothing else you haven’t turned on yourself, and this website sets no cookies.
Who runs Cassette
Cassette is an open-source project started by Mathieu Dubart and published under the CassetteLab organization. For anything related to privacy, write to support@getcassette.app.
The app
There are no Cassette servers. The app connects directly to the music server you set up, and that’s where your data goes.
- Server details. Your server address and username are stored on your device. Your password or token is kept in the system Keychain. They are only ever sent to the server you configured.
- Custom headers. If you add headers (for example for Cloudflare Access), they are stored on your device and sent only to your server.
- Your library and listening. Cached artwork, downloads, play history and listening stats are stored on your device. Plays may also be reported to your own server, as with any Subsonic client.
- No tracking. Cassette contains no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs, and doesn’t collect anything about you for us.
Services you choose to connect
Some features send data to a third party, and only once you turn them on. If you enable ListenBrainz scrobbling, the tracks you play and your ListenBrainz token are sent to ListenBrainz, under the MetaBrainz privacy policy. Other self-hosted services you add are contacted the same way as your music server: directly, from your device.
Beta and downloads
- iPhone (TestFlight). The beta is distributed by Apple through TestFlight. Apple may share crash reports, basic device information and any feedback you choose to send with the developer, as described in Apple’s TestFlight privacy notice. They are used only to fix bugs.
- Mac (Homebrew). The app is downloaded from GitHub Releases. GitHub handles that download under its own privacy statement.
This website
- No cookies, no analytics. Fonts and images are served from this site, not from third-party CDNs.
- Hosting. getcassette.app is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub may log technical data such as your IP address for security and operation, under the GitHub Privacy Statement.
- Contact form. The name, email, subject and message you send are delivered by Web3Forms to our inbox. They are used only to reply to you and are not added to any mailing list.
- “Playing on my cassette”. The live track shown on the home page is fetched by your browser from mathieu-dubart.fr, the developer’s own server. That server receives an ordinary web request (including your IP address) and may keep standard access logs. Nothing is stored in your browser.
- Ko-fi. Support on Ko-fi is handled by Ko-fi under its own policy. We only see what Ko-fi shows creators, such as the name and message you choose to leave.
Your rights
The only personal data we can hold about you is what you send us yourself: a contact message, TestFlight feedback, a Ko-fi note. You can ask to see it, correct it or have it deleted at any time by writing to support@getcassette.app. If you’re in the EU, you can also file a complaint with your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL).
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. The full history is public in the website’s repository.
